Last Time Out – Bill Dellinger Invitational

The Bruins earned a third-place finish on the men's side with 63 points in the meet, trailing second-place Portland by only one point in the final standings. Three Bruins finished in the top nine runners – Peter Herold (5th, 23:49.8), Ronan McMahon-Staggs (8th, 23:54.5) and Michael Mireles (9th, 23:54.9). The men jumped up to seventh in the West Region rankings after previously sitting at No. 14. UCLA men now rank No. 8 in the region after having the last two weekends without competition.

The UCLA women's cross country team went up against a field of tough competition, finishing in seventh place in the Oregon meet. Paced by senior Emma Tavella (12th, 20:30.4), the Bruins had two runners finish in the top-25 (Mia Kane, 24th, 20:59.1).

2021 Florida State Invitational / Pre-Nationals

The women's team finished 25th at the 2021 Pree-Nationals Meet in Tallahassee, Fla., in a talented field of opposition. Gwyn George crossed as the team's first runner on the Apalachee Regional Park 6k course, finishing 106th overall with a time of 21:16.2. Emma Tavella was close behind in 110th place, finishing with a time of 21:18.3 for the 6k.

Peter Herold led the way for the Bruin men en route to a 27th-place finish. Herold ran an 8k time of 23:59.6 for a 67th-place finish. Darius Riley followed closely in 69th place, crossing with a time of 24:00.8.

2021 Highlander Invitational

The Bruin men finished fourth overall and the women's squad secured strong placements from each of its four runners at last year's Highlander Invitational.

Jake Parker stuck in the front packs throughout the 8k competition, crossing in 13th place with a time of 24:22.9. Marcus Mota followed closely in 21st place, clocking a time of 24:34.1 as the team's second runner. Patrick Curulla (24:49.3) and William Frankenfeld (24:51.4) went 36-39, respectively, while Anthony Stone crossed in 59th with a time of 25:09.2 to round out the Bruins' scoring five.

The UCLA women only suited up four runners in the 6k and, thus, did not record a team placement as at least five runners are required to earn a team score. The squad did secure four top-40 finishes on the day, led by Mia Kane's 15th-place showing (21:08.6). All four runners ducked under 22:00 for the 6k course in Riverside.

Notes on the Bruins

  • UCLA had 12 runners set PR's at the Dellinger Invitational on Sept. 23.
