No. 2 Bears Defeat No. 6 Long Beach State In Overtime

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 2 California men's water polo team held off No. 6 Long Beach State in overtime, defeating the Tigers 16-14 Thursday evening at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.

Sophomore Max Casabella led the Bears with a career-high tying six goals, three of which came on 5-meter penalty shots. In a game that saw a tie score six different times, his three goals in overtime allowed the Bears to retake the lead that would give them the win.

Senior utility player Jack Deely and Junior center Nikolaos Papanikolaou contributed three goals apiece. Deely added four assists to finish with seven points.

Junior goalkeeper Adrian Weinberg had nine saves in the contest.

The Bears return to Berkeley to host No. 19 George Washington Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex for Senior Day. As the last home game of the season, Cal will honor its class of three seniors for their contributions made to the program after the match.
