Casabella Named MPSF Player Of The Week

Oct 24, 2022

Cal sophomore Max Casabella has been named the MPSF men's water polo Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Casabella continued his recent scoring tear with two dominant games last week, including a six-goal performance in the No. 2 Bears' 16-14 overtime victory at Long Beach State on Thursday. The outburst matched his career-high, which he previously set in the semifinals of last season's NCAA semifinals against UCLA. Casabella scored three of Cal's four goals in overtime and also added two steals against Long Beach.

Casabella had three more goals to go along with two assists and a steal in Cal's 24-10 victory over No. 19 George Washington on Saturday. He has scored 17 goals in the past four games.

This marks Casabella's second MPSF Player of the Week honor this season. Last week, he was named to the watch list for the Cutino Award, given to the top player in NCAA water polo.

The Bears are back in the pool Saturday with a showdown at No. 1 UCLA at 1 p.m. The game will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
