LAST WEEK

  • No. 8 Stanford took command of the title race with a pair of impressive road wins - a 3-0 sweep at Washington State on Friday and a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against the No. 19 Huskies in Seattle on Sunday.
  • The Cardinal, who hold a two-match lead with eight regular season contests remaining, handed the Cougars their first home loss of the season and improved to 12-1 overall on the road - the best mark away from home in the nation in 2022.
  • Stanford’s 10-match winning streak is tied for the second-longest in the country among Power 5 teams, trailing No. 7 Pittsburgh (15) and tied with No. 3 Wisconsin and No. 6 Ohio State. The Cardinal's winning streak is its longest since it won its final 17 matches in 2019 en route to the program's ninth NCAA title.
  • No. 16 Oregon picked up a pair of key road wins - 3-1 at Arizona on Friday and a 3-0 sweep at Arizona State Sunday - to climb the standings and sit alone in second place. The Ducks have won five straight and moved up two spots in the AVCA rankings this week with a top-20 matchup against No. 19 Washington looming.
  • Joining the Cardinal and Ducks with a 2-0 weekend was Colorado, who took down the Bruins 3-1 on Friday night and upset then-No. 24 USC 3-1 at home. It marked just the third victory for the Buffs over the Trojans in program history, while it was the first time Colorado had swept the LA schools in the same weekend. The Buffs now have two wins over ranked teams in 2022 (beat then-No.19 Illinois 3-0 on Sept. 3).
  • Utah’s 3-0 win at home over the Trojans last Friday was its second win over a ranked opponent this year (beat then-No. 15 Washington on Oct. 14).
  • Despite a pair of losses last weekend, USC has won 11 of its last 15 matches and sits in a tie for third in the standings with No. 19 Washington and Washington State.
  • Six Conference squads split their matchups last weekend - Arizona (L Oregon, W Oregon State, Arizona State (W Oregon State, L Oregon), UCLA (L Colorado, W Utah), Utah (W USC, L UCLA), Washington (W California, L Stanford) and Washington State (L Stanford, W California).

NUMBERS OF NOTE

  • Washington's Ella May Powell, the NCAA's active leader in career assists, is currently fifth in Pac-12 history with 5,864 career assists. Stanford's Bryn Kehoe is next in front of Powell and fourth in the league's record book (5,956).
  • Over the weekend, Powell moved into 10th in Pac-12 history with 157 career service aces, passing former Husky and current Arizona State head coach Sanja Tomasevic, who had 156 from 2002-05. She now sits behind California’s Brook Coulter (1996-99) and Arizona’s Kim Glass (2002-05), who are tied for seventh all-time at 162.

It's a Pac-12 record for a Conference match, surpassing the nine from California's Gabrielle Abernathy (vs. Arizona State, Sept. 23, 2004) and Brook Coulter (at Oregon, Oct. 16, 1998).
  • Stanford’s Elia Rubin garnered her fourth consecutive Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honor on Oct. 31 and fifth overall in 2022, matching the five by Oregon's Mimi Colyer this season as the freshmen phenoms have split the 10 awards this year.
