Washington Heads to Pullman for Boeing Apple Cup Series Opener

PULLMAN, Wash. – The first matchup of the Boeing Apple Cup Series is set for Saturday as Washington (13-12, 5-9 Pac-12) visits Washington State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with J.B. Long and Eldridge Recasner calling the game on Pac-12 Networks. Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton will call the action on the Husky Sports Network, and locally on Sports Radio KJR-AM 950.
 
The Matchup
Saturday will be the 293rd Apple Cup matchup between Washington and Washington State. The Cougars are the Huskies' third-most common opponent in history, behind only Oregon and Oregon State. UW and WSU split the 2021-22 season series with the home teams winning each game. The Huskies have won two of the past three meetings but the Cougars have won four of the last six, sweeping the 2019-20 series after the Huskies had swept the 2017-18 and '18-19 series. UW has won five of the last eight games in Pullman.
 
Last Time Out
It came down to the final possessions of a back-and-forth battle between Washington and USC on Saturday night but the home team secured a 80-74 win. Keion Brooks Jr. made 11 of 13 foul shots and scored 22 points to lead the Huskies. Brooks added 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season, and four assists. League Leaders:
Washington leads the Pac-12 and ranks ninth in the NCAA in blocks per game (5.6). Three Huskies lead the league in offensive statistics. Braxton Meah is first in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage (70.1%); Cole Bajema leads the league in free throw percentage (88.1%) and Brooks ranks second in scoring.
 
Milestones:
Jamal Bey passed Darnell Gant for most games played in a Husky uniform when he checked into his 141st game against Arizona. Keion Brooks Jr. scored his 1,000th career point with a first-half three against ASU. Noah Williams currently sits at 1,000 career points, eclipsing the mark at USC.
 
Signing Day
Four-star recruit Wesley Yates III (Beaumont, Texas/Beaumont United) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 16, announcing his commitment to Washington. Yates is the 37th-ranked prospect on ESPN's Top-100. The signing continues the momentum built from last year's class, which includes the No. 1 rated player in the state of Washington, Tyler Linhardt (Seattle, Wash./King's HS) and guard Keyon Menifield Jr. (Mount Morris, Mich./Phoenix [Ariz.] Prep).
 
 
Up Next
Following the conclusion of the Huskies' three-game road trip (their longest of the season), the team returns home for battles with Oregon and Oregon State. The Oregon game on Feb. 15 has been deemed a Black Out.
