Bears Return To Haas Pavilion

Mar 9, 2023
Junior Noah Sano (above) led the Bears on parallel bars last weekend with a score of 13.800.

BERKELEY – After nearly two months, California men's gymnastics is set to compete at Haas Pavilion for the first time since its season opener, welcoming Army and William & Mary to town on Saturday. The first rotation is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.

The Golden Bears hope to keep riding on the momentum from their meet last Saturday at Stanford, where Jasper Smith-Gordon posted Cal's standout performance as he broke the modern program vault record with his winning score of 14.850 – an effort that earned him Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Specialist of the Week as well as College Gymnastics Association (CGA) Co-Specialist and Co-Rookie of the Week honors. The Bears' pommel horse lineup also impressed, recording a combined 65.650 that tied for fourth in program history with the help of junior Aidan Li's 14.000 (also tied for fourth in program history).

In Cal's last outing at Haas Pavilion, the Bears posted a season-high team score of 394.950 and set two individual program top-10 scores from Smith-Gordon (vault, 14.600) and junior Noah Newfeld (rings, 14.150).

This will be Cal's second meeting with Army this season and its first with William & Mary since the 2021 campaign.
