Mar 21, 2023

BERKELEY- The Pac-12 Conference announced its 2023 Women's Gymnastics All-Conference awards on Tuesday morning. For the fourth straight year, five members of the No. 7 California gymnastics team made the list, tying the program record once again. The five Golden Bears earned 10 total honors.

Sophomore Mya Lauzon picked up the most hardware, being named first-team All-Pac-12 on all three events she consistently competed in this season – vault, beam and floor. The Pac-12 Beam Champion had a breakout season, ranking seventh in the nation on vault and beam, and 12th on floor. She hit all 41 of her routines, posted 23 scores of 9.900 or better, and won 15 event titles this season.

On beam, Lauzon rewrote the record book, breaking the program's top mark with a 9.975 on March 10 and promptly topping that mark two days later with the first perfect 10 in Cal history. She hasn't posted a score lower than a 9.900 since early February and has secured four-straight 9.950s on the floor exercise. These are the first all-conference awards she has received in her young career.

Although Lauzon only competed in the all-around on five occasions, she managed to tie the program record of 39.700 against Arizona State on Feb. 4.

Sophomore Maddie Williams was named first-team All-Pac-12 as an all-arounder and an uneven bars competitor. With an NQS of 9.955, she is ranked eighth in the country on bars – an event she has won six times this year. Her all-around NQS of 39.550 ranks her 18th.

Williams competed in the all-around in all but one meet this season and hit 45 of her 47 routines. She performed seven bars routines that scored a 9.95 or higher including two 9.975s that are good for second in program history. This past weekend she took the silver medal at the Pac-12 Championships with a 9.95. On two occasions she has tied the school's fourth-highest all-around mark of 39.625, including Cal's home quad meet on March 12 when she was named the AA champion. This is her second time making the all-conference list, earning an honorable mention for bars last season.

Junior Andi Li added to her impressive resume, being named first-team All-Pac-12 for the all-around for the second-straight year and named first-team All-Pac-12 on bars for the third-straight year. In total, she has earned six all-conference honors in her career.

Li finished the year as the nation's sixth-ranked bars competitor with an NQS of 9.960 and was 14th in the all-around with an NQS of 39.585. She competed in the all-around in every meet this year, hit all 48 of her routines and won 15 event titles. Nine of those wins came on bars and four were all-around victories. Every one of her bars routines this season have been 9.900+, and she has recorded nine scores of 9.950 or higher. On three occasions she tied the program's second-highest mark with a 9.975.

Li also matched the second-highest AA score of 39.675 back in January and posted a 39.625 on three occasions.

Freshman eMjae Frazier earned her first all-conference honor, being named to the All-Pac-12 First Team on floor. Her NQS of 9.950 ranks her eighth in the country on the event. She has won eight events this season, five of which came on floor.

On March 3, Frazier became a viral sensation, recording the first perfect 10 floor routine in Cal history at the Purple & Gold Classic. The footage of the stunning performance has accumulated over 1.5 million views on social media. She has notched nine routines of 9.90 or better, including a 9.95 at the Pac-12 Championships this past weekend that earned her a share of third place. The freshman also tied the program's all-around record this year with a 39.700 against UCLA on Feb. 18.

Senior Nevaeh DeSouza has been the Cal Ripken Jr. of this team for the last four years, competing in the all-around in all but one meet in her career. She becomes the first Bear to make the all-conference list all four years, being named an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention as an all-arounder and vault competitor. In total she has earned eight all-conference honors, which is also a school record.

This season DeSouza has hit all 48 of her routines and has won three event titles. She ranks 24th as an all-arounder with an NQS of 39.505 and 23rd on vault with a 9.905. Usually competing in the leadoff spot, DeSouza consistently turned in strong performances to get the rotation off to a great start for her team. She turned in 16 routines that scored 9.90 or better this season, including a 9.975 on beam, which at the time tied the program record.
