Pollo Named Pac-12 Co-Golfer of the Week

Mar 21, 2023

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona freshman golfer Zach Pollo has been named Pac-12 Co-Golfer of the Week following his co-championship at the Arizona NIT last week. His 13-under par performance earned co-medalist honors with USC's Jackson Rivera as Pollo became the first Arizona freshman to win a tournament since Henry Liaw won the 2004 Pac-10 Championships.

Pollo helped guide the Wildcats to the team title at the Arizona NIT, giving the program its first win at the annual event at Omni Tucson National since 2003. He becomes the first Wildcat to win the Pac-12's weekly award since Brad Reeves in 2021. The Rocklin, California native carded rounds of 70, 65 and 68 in his victory over the weekend. His second-round performance of 7-under, 65, was the lowest round recorded by an Arizona freshman in four seasons.

Arizona Men's Golf's victory at the Arizona NIT extends the program's streak of seasons with a home tournament win to six, following the program's five consecutive wins at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate from 2018 to 2022.

The Wildcats' 2022-23 season now includes one team win and a trio of runner-up finishes, including two in 2023. The team will return to action for the nationally televised Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, California, beginning on Monday, April 10.
