Huskies Battle Hard, Fall 14-9 to Tulane Wednesday

Mar 22, 2023

SEATTLE – Cam Clayton led off with a home run for Washington (14-5) but shortly thereafter, Tulane (6-15) seized control and the Huskies were unable to climb out of the hole, falling 14-9 at Husky Ballpark.

Grant Cunningham took the loss on the hill allowing four runs over 1.1 innings. The Huskies used six arms out of the bullpen, including two perfect frames from Josh Emanuels.

Clayton got things started on the right foot, hammering an inside pitch and keeping it narrowly fair, slamming the ball off the left field foul pole for a leadoff blast.

However, Tulane scored four runs in the second and five more in the third, putting the Dawgs in a deep hole at 9-1.

Will Simpson clubbed a 3-run home run the other way into Union Bay in the bottom of the third, closing the deficit to 9-4, but Tulane got two runs back in the fifth to shut down the budding momentum.

Coby Morales unleashed a massive blast to left-center, a 440-foot bomb for his first homer since posting two on opening day. Unfortunately, a solo blast for the Green Wave in the sixth restored the seven-run advantage.

Cam Clayton shot an RBI single into left in the bottom of the sixth before Simpson tattooed another offering, crushing another three-run shot over the wall in left-center to reduce the deficit to three.

Tulane scratched across two more in the seventh and UW would get no closer, falling in a midweek shootout.
