USC breaks through late tie for 9-4 victory over Seattle U

LOS ANGELES, CA --The USC Trojans broke through after a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning to beat the Seattle U Redhawks 9-4 Wednesday.

Senior Toby Spach (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for USC (11-8-1). The right-hander went one shutout inning while giving up one hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Senior Blake Sodersten also made an impact on the mound for the Trojans, starting the ballgame and throwing three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Senior Johnny Olmstead led the way offensively for the Trojans, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple, two walks and three RBI. Freshman Austin Overn furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Senior Cole Gabrielson also helped out, going 2-for-5 for USC with a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

USC scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Gabrielson.

The Trojans lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 3-2.

USC scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Overn, which evened the score at 3-3.

That 3-3 tie turned into a 7-3 USC lead in the seventh.

The Trojans bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run triple off the bat of Olmstead.

USC kept the Redhawks without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning.

The Trojans scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Nick Lopez's 2-out single, bringing the USC advantage to 9-3. Seattle U put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Trojans still coasted to the 9-4 win.
