USC Defeats Washington State 13-3 Thanks to Stromsborg's 10-Strikeout Showing

Mar 24, 2023

LOS ANGELES – Tyler Stromsborg struck out a career-high 10 batters and the Trojan offense pounded out 13 runs on 16 hits as the USC baseball team took down Washington State 13-3 on Friday night.

After giving up a two-run homer in the top of the first, Stromsborg bucked down and was dominant the rest of the way. Over the next six innings, he allowed just two baserunners (both were stranded in the third) and retired the final 13 batters he faced. Both his 10 strikeouts and 7.0 innings pitched were career highs.

The Trojan offense scored one in the third and then tied the game with a run in the fourth. After that, the USC bats kicked it into overdrive, scoring four in the fifth to go ahead and then five in the sixth to put things out of reach. The Trojans tacked on two more over their final two innings and the Cougars managed just one in the ninth.

Lopez plated the go ahead runs with a two-RBI single in the fourth and Hedges followed with a two-run double. Carson Wells also drove in a pair of runs in the game, opening the scoring for USC with an RBI in the third and then adding a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Austin Overn also had three hits and scored three runs.

The 16 hits by USC were a season high and the 13 runs marked the seventh time this year the Trojans have put up double-digit runs.
