Washington Wins Third Straight, Tops Portland Tuesday

Mar 28, 2023

SEATTLE – Washington (17-6, 4-2 Pac-12) grabbed a first inning lead and never looked back Tuesday against Portland (16-8, 6-0 WCC), defeating the Pilots 8-3 at Husky Ballpark in midweek action.

Reilly McAdams earned the win on the mound, allowing a single run over four innings. Isaac yeager, Gianluca Shinn and Calvin Kirchoff each recorded one out in relief, while Grant Cunningham earned his second save with four scoreless frames.

The Huskies got to work right away, loading the bases with one out in the first. AJ Guerrero drew a walk with nowhere to put him to commence scoring, with Michael Snyder's sacrifice fly making it 2-0.

U Dub took advantage of a Portland throwing error in the second to double the lead, with Will Simpson and Coby Morales notching RBI singles.

The Pilots loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth but McAdams worked around the danger to limit the damage to a single run. In the home half, Simpson got the run right back with a solo shot to right, with Morales following with a run-scoring double to tack on another.

The Pilots scored a pair of unearned runs in the fifth, capitalizing on a Husky error to draw the lead down to three. However, Guerrero took a two-run shot the other way to get the runs right back at 8-3.

From there, Cunningham did the rest, retiring 13 of the 12 batters he faced to make it three wins in a row for the Huskies.
