UW Men Travel To Sarasota To Race Brown & Yale

Mar 29, 2023

The Washington men's rowing team gets its 2023 spring season underway in earnest this Saturday as the Huskies travel cross-country to Sarasota, Fla., for the IRA Sarasota Invitational, where the UW will row vs. Brown and Yale.

The Huskies will take on the two Ivy League programs in four races, the first through fourth varsity eights, with entries from all three schools in each event. The trip marks the UW men's team's first appearance at Nathan Benderson Park, which has hosted numerous international events and NCAA Championships regattas.

Saturday's races are part of a larger regatta this weekend at Benderson Park, which also includes the FIRA Championships and Sunshine State Invitational.

Here's the schedule of UW events for Saturday, April 1:

8:40 a.m. PT/11:40 a.m. ET – Fourth Varsity Eights
8:50 a.m. PT/11:50 a.m. ET – Third Varsity Eights
9:00 a.m. PT/12:00 p.m. ET – Second Varsity Eights
9:10 a.m. PT/12:10 p.m. ET – Varsity Eights

Washington will host live video of the UW races at gohuskies.com/live.

Washington, Brown and Yale make up three of the four programs that had crews in the grand final of the first, second and third varsity eights at last year's Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) national championship regatta.

Following their trip to Sarasota, the UW oarsmen will stay a little closer to home the following Saturday, April 8, when they travel to the Covered Bridge Regatta in Oregon, on Dexter Lake, which will host Pac-12 Championships later this year. That event will include other men's and women's races, but concludes with the UW-Oregon State dual.
