PHOENIX - No. 29 ARIZONA climbed to a share of the team lead, while STANFORD sophomore Rose Zhang equaled the event's 36-hole scoring record through Tuesday's second round of the 2023 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships hosted by ARIZONA STATE at Papago Golf Club.

Arizona surged to the front thanks to a 4-under opening nine and hung on as Papago's afternoon winds kicked up. The Wildcats closed the round at 2-under 286 and are tied with first-round leader No. 15 USC (+1, 289) at 8-under 568 team totals entering Wednesday's final round.

No. 2 Stanford (-5, 571), No. 6 OREGON (-2, 574) and No. 11 ASU (E, 576) also picked up shots on the Trojans and moved into contention at three, six and eight shots back, respectively.

Despite a pair of back-nine bogeys - her only blemishes through two rounds - Zhang birdied three of her final four holes to again record the day's lowest round at 4-under 68, extending her lead to four shots and matching the Championships' 36-hole scoring mark of 9-under (67-68--135) shared by Stanford's Mhairi McKay (1997) and USC's Gabriella Then (2016). She is within range of the event's 54-hole scoring record of 12-under set by McKay in 1997, as well as the largest margin of six set by Arizona State's Pam Wright in 1988.

An individual victory would be Zhang's sixth of the season and 10th of her career, both two shy of matching Conference records with two events left on the calendar (NCAA Regionals, NCAA Championships).

The Wildcats will be in search of their league-record ninth Conference title, first since 2015; the Trojans their eighth crown and seventh since 2008; the Cardinal its third and first since 2014; the Ducks their second consecutive title; and the Sun Devils their league-record ninth, first since 2009.

Wednesday's final round will begin off split tees at 7:30 a.m. PT.

Daily highlights will be featured across Pac-12 Network, Pac-12.com and Pac-12 social media channels, culminating with a special half-hour recap on Pac-12 Network on Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. PT.
