Hockey Releases 2023-24 Schedule
TEMPE – More action. More home games. More rivalry matchups. The 2023-24 Sun Devil Hockey schedule features it all in a culmination of 26 home games, another round of the Desert Hockey Classic, and an exhibition match versus the University of Arizona ACHA team.
The schedule, as announced by head coach Greg Powers on Tuesday, includes 38 regular season games, only 12 of which are on the road. Sun Devil fans will enjoy several marquee matchups at Mullett Arena including Denver and Providence in November, the Desert Hockey Classic in January, and ASU's newest rival, Alaska Fairbanks, in February.
ASU hosts four of the 2022-23 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament participant teams, including Merrimack, Denver, Harvard, and Cornell.
The Sun Devils open the year with a home stint, starting with an exhibition game against Arizona on Oct. 8. ASU and UA last met in an exhibition game to start ASU's first complete season as NCAA Division I in 2015-16. The Sun Devils defeated the Wildcats, 8-1.
The opening month also includes two more home series with Merrimack and Northern Michigan. ASU finishes off the month with the first road trip of the season at Miami on Oct. 27-28.
ASU is at home the entire month of November with tilts against Stonehill, Denver, Alaska Anchorage, and Providence. The Alaska Anchorage and Providence series are Friday - Sunday matchups to accommodate home football games on those Saturdays.
Unlike November, ASU spends most of December on the road, starting with a trip to Colorado College (Dec. 1-2), followed by a stint at Robert Morris (Dec. 16-17) and a historic trip to Lake Placid for the four-team Adirondack Winter Invitational on Dec. 29-30. Lake Placid is the location of the 1980 Winter Olympics famous for USA Hockey's Miracle on Ice.
From there, ASU embarks on a six-week home stand that includes the Desert Hockey Classic, and series with Cornell (Jan. 12-13), Augustana (Jan. 19-20), Lindenwood (Feb. 2-3), and Alaska Fairbanks (Feb. 9-10).
This year's Desert Hockey Classic features UMass-Lowell, Harvard, and Omaha on Jan. 5-6.
After the home series versus Fairbanks, ASU takes a week off before traveling up to Alaska to take on the Nanooks on their home turf (Feb. 23-24).
Similar to the last two seasons, the final home series is against Long Island on March 1-2, 2024. ASU finishes the season at Alaska Anchorage on March 8-9.
NCAA Regionals start on March 22-23 and the NCAA Frozen Four is in St. Paul, MN on April 11-13.
