THURSDAY, JUNE 1

Former UCLA men's tennis standout Marcos Giron advanced to the singles third round at Roland-Garros for the first time in his career Thursday, beating Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic in three sets. He was one of three victorious Bruins on Day 4 of the French Open, as Jean-Julien Rojer and Ena Shibahara prevailed on the doubles courts.

Giron has dropped just one game across his first two singles contests at Stade Roland Garros, previously dispatching of qualifier Hamad Medjedovic of Serbia by a 6-0, 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 score. Thursday, Giron broke Lehecka's serve out of the gate and never looked back. Giron was not broken on the day, moving on to face Nicolas Jarry of Chile Saturday.

Two days after getting past the Greek pair of Petros Tsitsipas and Stefanos Tsitsipas in a third-set tiebreaker, the third-seeded men's doubles team of Rojer and Marcelo Arevalo made quick work of Nicolas Barrientos and Robert Galloway. Rojer and Arevalo charged into the third round behind a 6-2, 6-2 result and meet the 13th-seeded combination of Jamie Murray and Michael Venus in Saturday's third round.

The Japanese team of Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama, seeded seventh in the women's doubles draw, got past Ekaterina Alexandrova and Anastasia Potapova by a 7-5, 6-4 margin in Thursday's first-round match. Next up for the Australian Open finalists is a second-round matchup with Anna Bondár and Greet Minnen Saturday.

The all-UCLA men's doubles partnership of Giron and Mackenzie McDonald meets the 14th-seeded pair of Argentinians Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. Giron and McDonald bested Pierre-Huges Herbert and Nicholas Mahut of France 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6) Wednesday.
