Utah gymnastics embarks on international trip to the Utes' South Korea campus

Jun 27, 2023

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah gymnastics team heads out on a once-in-a-lifetime international trip this week to visit Utah's Asia Campus in Incheon, South Korea. While abroad, the team will participate in an exhibition against Korean teams, teach gymnastics classes to local youth, host meet-and-greets with students aspiring to pursue an athletic career at the collegiate level in the United States and explore the campus, city and surroundings.

The Red Rocks have won the last three Pac-12 titles and are coming off a third consecutive top-three finish at the NCAA Championships.

This trip, which takes place June 28 - July 3, marks the first international travel for the program since the summer of 2017. The University of Utah Asia Campus will play hosts to the gymnasts and staff during their stay in Korea. In addition to training, teaching and competing, the student-athletes will have the opportunity to earn credit towards their degrees as part of the program.

"Global experiences offer an unparalleled richness to student life, and we're excited to offer that to this team," said Utah head coach Tom Farden. "This will be an experience of a lifetime for our student-athletes and we are extremely grateful for this opportunity."

It's particularly meaningful for Farden, who was born in Incheon and adopted to the U.S. as an infant. While there, Farden will also speak to an audience about the tools he has used to help him succeed in the sport and in life.

Highlights of the itinerary include:

  • Korean Traditional Cultural Program - U Asia Campus (June 28)
  • Korean Barbeque Welcome Dinner (June 28)
  • Masterclass Gymnastics Teaching Sessions for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Students (Two classes on June 29)
  • Boat tour at Wangsan Marina (June 30)
  • South Korea Showcase with Post-Show Autographs (July 1)
  • Seoul Tour - Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Namsan & N-Seoul Tower, Gyeongbokgung Palace, BukChon Korean Traditional Village, Insadong Street, Traditional Korean Food Dinner (July 2)
