Triathlon Gearing Up for Junior World Championships

Jul 3, 2023

Having put together a strong stretch of performances this spring, Sun Devil Triathlon is gearing up for two final championship events later this month. Faith Dasso, Naomi Ruff and Sidney Clement will each be competing at the Junior World Championships in Hamburg, Germany, on July 13. Amber Schlebusch will also be in Hamburg racing in the World Triathlon Championship Series elite race.

ASU will also see Camille Buchanan, Liberty Ricca, Madison Judas, Evan Welch and Britney Brown running in the Americas Cup Long Beach on July 14 in Long Beach, Calif.

After winning her first individual Division I National Championship title last fall, Schlebusch is making a run at representing South Africa in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and will be racing at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, Spain, on September 23.

Schlebusch has won a pair of races this spring – Americas Cup Sarasota and South Africa National Championships – while placing ninth at the Americas Cup St. Peters Missouri and fourth at the Americas Cup Ixtapa in May.
Ruff's spring includes third-place finishes at the Americas North American Junior Championships Sarasota in March and the Americas Junior Qualification Event Punta Cana in May. Dasso followed close behind Ruff at those events by placing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Clement, an incoming freshman, also competed in those two races this spring. She placed second at the Sarasota event and fourth in Punta Cana.

The busy spring for Sun Devil Triathlon has also seen Ricca finish sixth at the Americas Cup Chinchiná. Buchanan won the Jenny Lee Cup, with Judas placing third to earn her pro card.
