WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

  • Pac-12 Networks’ Anne Marie Anderson: “With new head coaches for half the teams in the Conference, the first half of Pac-12 play will reveal different styles and new talent making the back half of conference play a game of chess via the scouting report. Defending Pac-12 champion Stanford returns one of the best setters in the country in Kami Miner with plenty of power on the pins, including fifth-year opposite Kendall Kipp. The Oregon Ducks feature reigning AVCA National Freshman of the Year Mimi Colyer and setter Hannah Pukis, both of whom were instrumental in last season’s success. Washington State has added depth to its middles after playing much of last season last year with an outside hitter filling in at that spot. The addition of fifth-year transfer Iman Isanovic [from Arizona State] adds yet another power punch to the Cougars’ offense. The USC Trojans have increased their wins in each season of fourth-year head coach Brad Keller’s tenure, and he boasts his deepest team yet this year. Outside hitter Skylar Fields and setter Mia Tuaniga will again lead the squad but look for major production from players who were sidelined with injuries in the 2022 season, including middle blocker Tyrah Ariail. Outside of the top 25 there are opportunities to be spoilers. The Bruins will have a new look under head coach Alfee Reft who is only the fourth head coach in the program’s history. Reft brought back middle blocker Anna Dodson and all eyes will be on UCLA after a disappointing 2022 campaign.”
