UCLA Earns No. 1 Recruit Class Ranking from Baseball America

Oct 4, 2023

LOS ANGELES – UCLA's incoming recruit class for the 2024 season was ranked No. 1 in the country by Baseball America on Wednesday.

The top ranking from Baseball America is the latest recognition for a group that had previously been ranked the No. 1 post-draft class in the country by Perfect Game and the No. 2 class in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.

The Bruins have now brought in the nation's top recruiting class twice in the last three years. More broadly, UCLA has imported a top-10 class in 12 of 18 seasons under head coach John Savage, including eight classes that ranked inside the top-five.

UCLA's newest group features seven players that featured in Baseball America's draft rankings, and another who was in the top-100 before formally opting out of the draft. Infielder Roch Cholowsky (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton HS) was the highest-ranked high school position player to make it to campus from Baseball America's draft rankings.

"This class is clearly an impact group that has major attributes which will help build our program for years to come," Savage told UCLABruins.com in November. "You seldom see this many high-level players in one class, so we feel fortunate to be able to put this group together. Coach Ward, Coach Gallego, and our entire staff have done a terrific job of putting this class together. We have always built our program around the high school player, and we will do so again with this class."

Besides Cholowsky, other newcomers who made the Baseball America rankings included outfielder Grant Gray (No. 70), right-handed pitcher Justin Lee (145), infielder Phoenix Call (253), infielder Cameron Kim (280), outfielder Dean West (335), and right-handed pitcher Luke Rodriguez (458).
