Two Through to Round of 16 Again

• For the fifth consecutive season, Pac-12 Men's Soccer has advanced two programs to the NCAA Round of 16 as OREGON STATE (9-5-5) and STANFORD (10-3-5) have both reached the NCAA Tournament's third round.
  • The five straight seasons with multiple teams in the NCAA Round of 16 is the longest streak in Conference history, bettering a four-year run from 2000-03.
• The Pac-12 is one of four leagues with multiple teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament along with the ACC (Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia), America East (New Hampshire, Vermont), and Sun Belt (James Madison, Marshall, West Virginia).
• For the Beavers, it's their second-ever appearance in the Round of 16, the other coming in 2021 when they reached the NCAA Quarterfinals and missed advancing to the College Cup on penalties (T, 1-1 vs. Clemson; 3-4 PKs).
  • The Beavers' run to the Round of 16 is even more impressive with it coming under the direction of first-year head coach Greg Dalby and having to replace five starters from 2022 including Pac-12 Player of the Year Joran Gerbet and top scorer Mouhameth Thiam.
  • Dalby is the fourth coach to lead a Pac-12 program to the Round of 16 in their debut season (Bret Simon, STAN, 2001; Tom Fitzgerald, UCLA, 2002; Jorge Salcedo, UCLA, 2004).
• For the Cardinal, it is its league-leading 13th trip to the NCAA Round of 16, including its eighth consecutive in as many NCAA Tournament appearances (2015-20 & 2022-23; DNQ for 2021 NCAA Tourney).
  • With the Cardinal women's team through to the quarterfinals, Stanford joins Clemson and North Carolina as the only schools with both soccer programs still competing in the NCAA Tournaments.

NCAA Third Round Fixtures

• No. 16 seed Stanford (10-3-5) has the difficult task of traveling to Huntington, W.Va., where it will take on No. 1 overall seed Marshall (18-2-0) in the schools' first head-to-head meeting.
  • The Cardinal are unbeaten on the road this season (3-0-4), but the Thundering Herd will counter with a 13-1-0 record and +35 goal differential (41-6) at home this fall.
  • Should Stanford advance, a trip to either No. 8 seed New Hampshire or No. 9 Clemson would be on deck in the quarterfinals.
• Oregon State (9-5-5) heads to Dallas to face No. 6 seed SMU (14-2-2). Similar to Marshall, the Mustangs have racked up a gaudy home record (11-1-1) this fall, while the Beavers have been a solid 5-2-2 on the road.
  • The Beavers and Mustangs have met only once - a 2-1 OSU victory in Corvallis in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
  • With a win, OSU's path would continue on to either No. 3 seed North Carolina or No. 14 Hofstra.

Opening Rounds Results

• Oregon State has been impressive in advancing to the NCAA Round of 16, avenging a pair of regular-season losses in largely convincing fashion.
  • The Beavers needed overtime to dispatch of Seattle U, 2-1, in the first round despite outshooting the Redhawks by a 23-3 margin.
  • OSU then went on the road and shut out No. 11 seed Portland, 3-0, snapping the Pilots' streak of 28 consecutive home results dating to Sept. 2021.
• Stanford was resolute in its 3-1 second-round comeback victory over Missouri State, tallying three unanswered goals following the Bears' opener in the 8th minute.
• Pac-12 champion UCLA bowed out of the postseason with a 1-0 loss to LMU, its second 1-0 loss to the Lions this season. The Bruins peppered the Lions with a season-high 24 shots, but LMU's 30th-minute goal stood as the decider.

Top Performers

• The league's top two scorers - Logan Farrington at Oregon State, and Zach Bohane at Stanford - delivered for their programs in advancing through the opening rounds, both earning National Team of the Week accolades from College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer for the second times this season.
  • Farrington has five points (2g/1a) in two postseason matches, highlighted by a brace in the 3-0 second-round rout of Portland.
  • The Beavers improved to 7-1-2 this season when Farrington scores a goal, and his 13 goals and 31 points (13g/5a) lead the Pac-12 and are the fifth-most in a season in OSU history. He also scored his fifth game-winning goal of the season in the win over Portland, matching OSU's single-season program record.
• Bohane led the Cardinal with a goal - a left footed free-kick banger from 20 yards - and an assist against Missouri State, giving him a league-best 11 assists and team-high 27 points (8g/11a) this season.
• Fran Cortijo tallied the decisive goal just under two minutes into overtime for OSU against Seattle U, with Dante Williams opening the scoring in the 31st minute. Farrington assisted Cortijo's winner.
• Shane de Flores tallied the game-winning goal for the Cardinal against MSU, his team-best third deciding strike of the season.
