Bats Go Crazy In Eighth As Huskies Top Seattle U 14-3

Apr 23, 2024

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Trailing for the majority of the game, Washington turned around Tuesday's midweek with Seattle U in the eighth inning, beating the Redhawks 14-3 at Bannerwood Park.

Sawyer Parkin earned his first career win out of the bullpen, delivering three shutout innings with three hits allowed and two strikeouts.

After Seattle U opened scoring with a run in the second, Washington threatened to respond immediately in the third, loading the bases with one out. Instead, an inning-ending double play ended the threat and the Redhawks added another run in the home half.

Dylan Osborne drew a bases loaded walk in the third, bringing Cooper Whitton across the plate to put UW on the board. However, a two-out RBI single in the fourth from Seattle U extended the lead back to two runs at 3-1.

Having struggled to find solid ground for nearly the entire game offensively, the Husky bats exploded for seven hits and 13 runs in the eighth, turning the game on its head.

It was Osborne that got things started for the Dawgs, sending a single up the middle to plate a pair and tie the game. Carson Ohland followed with a bases-loaded walk to put the Huskies ahead, with Jeter Ybarra's sacrifice fly adding another run.

Sam DeCarlo put the Dawgs in complete control with one swing of the bat, sneaking a ball just inside the right field foul pole for a grand slam.

After a Blake Wilson single plated another run, Cam Clayton smacked a triple to the right-center gap to score two and Carson Ohland rounded out the inning with an RBI single up the middle.

Parkin rode the momentum to a scoreless eighth and Peysen Sweeney closed it out in the ninth as the Huskies clinched the season series over the Redhawks.

The Huskies will return home for the weekend, resuming conference play with the Pac-12 leading Arizona Wildcats, ranked No. 16 in the country. All three games will be streamed on Washington Live Stream 2.
