Three Bears Earn Academic All-American Honors

Bjorn Seeliger, Tyler Kopp, and Matthew Jensen have all been named CSC Academic All-Americans.

AUSTIN, Texas – California men's swimming & diving team seniors Björn Seeliger, Tyler Kopp, and Matthew Jensen all earned Academic All-America honors, as announced by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday.
 
Seeliger earned first-team honors, while Kopp was named to the second team and Jensen earned third-team recognition. All three were named to the Academic All-District Team earlier this spring. Seeliger becomes the third repeat winner in program history, joining Nathan Adrian (2010-11) and Ryan Murphy (2015-17). Kopp and Jensen become the ninth and 10th CSC Academic All-Americans in program history, joining former winners Seeliger, Adrian, Murphy, Bengt Baron (1985), Pawel Sendyk (2020), Nate Biondi (2021), Reece Whitley (2022), and Dylan Hawk (2023).
 
The trio was among 30 decorated student-athletes across the country voted onto the CSC Academic All-America® Division I men's first, second and third teams. The full list of the 2023 men's swimming & diving teams can be viewed at CollegeSportsCummunicators.com.
 
Seeliger, a native of Södertälje, Sweden, is a business administration major with a 3.75 cumulative grade point average. A three-time NCAA champion and 24-time All-American, Seeliger was a major contributor to the Bears second place finish at the 2024 NCAA Championships, earning All-American honors in the 200-yard medley relay, 50 freestyle, 100 free, 100 backstroke 400 medley relay, and 400 free relay.
 
Kopp, a native of Tyler, Texas, is a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American and 2x CSC Academic All-District honoree. The business and economics major boasts a 3.95 GPA. Kopp wrapped up his senior campaign earning Second Team All-America honors in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:42.07. He earned his first trip to the consolation final with a stellar prelim, finishing first in his heat with a personal best time of 3:40.90 – which is the eighth-fastest time in program history.
 
Jensen, the 2024 Pac-12 Champion in the 100 freestyle, earns his first career academic honor. The native of Upper Dublin, Pa., is majoring in data science and has a cumulative GPA of 3.53. Jensen wrapped up a senior campaign in which he earned Second Team All-American honors in the 100 freestyle.
