Pac-12 Run Ends In Quarterfinal

OJAI, Calif. – The women's tennis team's Pac-12 tournament run came to a close in the quarterfinal Thursday night at Weil Tennis Academy as the USC Trojans won the match 4-0 to advance to the conference semifinal.
 
The Trojans will take on the 2-seed Stanford Cardinal on Friday at the Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, Calif.
 
USC's Snow Han and Emma Charney proved too much for Catherine Gagnon and Melissa Sakar on court 3 as USC took the match, 6-1.
 
No. 48 Astrid Olsen and Alexia Jacobs picked up a win on the top doubles court over Cayetano and Fairclough, 6-4, but it wasn't enough as the 69th-ranked Piper and Fry (USC) finally outlasted the back-and-forth battle on 2, 7-5. The Trojans grabbed the doubles point and went up 1-0.
 
The Huskies were in it the entire way during singles play as three of USC's singles players were ranked top-100 nationally – with two abandoned matches well into their third sets.
 
Olsen lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to nudge the Huskies into a two-point deficit.
 
Despite falling 6-2 in her first set, Sakar held a sizeable lead but ultimately fell in her second set  to No. 96 Cayetano, 6-2, 7-5.
 
The Trojans' 30th-ranked Charney was the final of the Trojans to deliver the blow, although No. 99 Jacobs put up a fight as the freshman came up short in an 8-6 second set tiebreak to drop the third singles match of the evening.
 
The Dawgs will await their NCAA fate until Monday afternoon. The NCAA selection show will take place Monday, April 29 at 3:30 p.m. PT on NCAA.com.
