Dawgs Remain In Contention After Two Rounds At NCAA Regionals

CLE ELUM, Wash. – Led by an even-par 72 from senior Camille Boyd, the Washington women's golf team moved up one place on the team leaderboard Tuesday and remained in contention for advancement, after the second of three rounds at the NCAA Cle Elum Regional.
 
Washington will enter the final round in contention for moving on to the national championships. The top five teams from the regional will earn a berth. At 23-over overall, the Huskies are just four strokes behind current fifth-place holders, Long Beach State and San Jose State. After two rounds, places four through eight are separated by just eight strokes.
 
The Huskies turned in the fourth lowest team score of the round (9-over, 297), on a day when the windy conditions on the Tumble Creek golf course led to 11 of 12 teams compiling team scores over par. Only six of 66 individuals were under par for the day.
 
Boyd, who finished round two in a tie for 17th place, shot an even-par 72, with three birdies and three bogies. She's 4-over for the tournament, low among her teammates.
 
Freshman Vivian Lu finished with a 2-over 74, moving her 11 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 28th place. She overcame a double on No. 1, playing even par over the remaining 17 holes.
 
Carmen Lim is one stroke back of Lu through 36 holes. She turned in a 4-over 76 on Tuesday and is 7-over for the tournament, tying her for 31st place. One more stroke back is UW's Jamie Hsieh, who is 8-over for the tournament. She posted a 3-over 75 on Tuesday.
 
The tournament, which UW is hosting, wraps up Wednesday with the third of three rounds. Players will begin teeing off at 9:00 a.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
