Beavers Fall Short in Pac-12 Tournament Opener

May 8, 2024

STANFORD, Calif. – Ninth-seeded Arizona State used three runs across the second and third innings to defeat eighth-seeded Oregon State on Wednesday night in the First Round of the Pac-12 Tournament, 3-1, at Stanford's Smith Family Stadium.

The Sun Devils opened the game's scoring in the second behind back-to-back hits – a single and RBI double to left center – to take the early advantage at 1-0. An inning later, Arizona State tripled their lead with consecutive triples – one to right and the other to left – made it 2-0 and the final run came when Marissa Schuld swiped home during a rundown between first and second.

Oregon State (21-29) threatened late – in the sixth – when Madison Simon and Eliana Gottlieb scratched hits to place each other in scoring position. With the aforementioned duo at second and third, Lici Campbell's fly out to deep center drove in Simon for the Beaver run.

Kiki Escobar joined Gottlieb and Simon with hits on the night for the Oregon State offense. Campbell was responsible for the run and drew a walk while Madyson also drew a base-on-balls.

Pitching the distance, Logan Hulon yielded all three Sun Devil runs off seven hits and two walks but struck out five.
