USC Baseball Drops Series Opener at Washington State

May 10, 2024

PULLMAN, Wash. – Two big innings from the Washington State Cougars were too much for the USC baseball team to overcome as the Trojans fell 20-8 on the road Friday night in Pullman.

USC falls to 22-27 overall and 12-12 in Pac-12 play. Washington State moves to 21-27 on the year and 9-16 in conference action.

USC got off to a promising start, getting a leadoff homer from Ryan Jackson, and then after two Cougar runs in the bottom half of the first, the Trojans scored two more to take the lead back in the second, with Carson Wells hitting a solo-shot and Jackson driving in another run. Washington State turned the tides again, however, putting up six runs on four hits to go up 8-3.

The Trojans cut it to a three-run game in the sixth, but the Cougars put up nine runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach. USC would score two in the ninth, but that was it.
