Big Flies Prevalent As No. 23 Oregon Evens Series With Washington

May 11, 2024

SEATTLE – No. 23 Oregon out-clubbed Washington on Saturday, evening the series with the Huskies with a 13-6 win at Husky Ballpark.

Starter Calvin Kirchoff took the loss, getting through five and a third innings but allowing nine runs.

The Ducks took a 2-0 lead after just two batters as Mason Neville's two-run home run put Oregon on top early. Washington countered in the home half with a blast of its own, a line-drive leadoff bomb just inside the left field foul pole from Aiva Arquette.

A two, run single in the second extended the lead for the Ducks but Washington had an answer once again, this time a two-run shot over the center field wall from Cooper Whitton. Three walks and an HBP followed, knotting things up at four runs apiece.

Oregon shot back with a two-run home run in the fourth and a solo shot in the fifth to regain the advantage before AJ Guerrero's two-run double narrowed the deficit to a single run.

But the Huskies couldn't keep up with the Duck offense as Oregon struck for two runs in the sixth, three more in the seventh and an extra run of insurance in the ninth to setup a showdown for the series on Sunday.

The Huskies at Ducks will do battle at 12:05 p.m. PT., with the game airing on Pac-12 Washington. It will be Senior Day at Husky Ballpark as Washington honors its seven seniors.

DAWG BITES
