Guerrero’s Three-Knock Game Not Enough At Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – Washington jumped out to an early lead Tuesday but couldn't hold it as Portland took the midweek matchup at Joe Etzel Field, 7-5.
 
Jack Sand took the loss in a Johnny-whole-staff day as UW used six pitchers on the day.
 
AJ Guerrero gave the Huskies an early lead to protect, pumping a solo home run over the left field wall, his team-leading 14th homer of the season.
 
The Huskies added another run in the third as Colton Bower led off with a walk, advanced to third eventually on Guerrero's infield single and scored on a balk.
 
However, back-to-back home runs from the Pilots in the home half of the third tied things up at two runs apiece.
 
The Pilots used a two-out rally in the fourth to take the lead before building some cushion with a three-run home run in the seventh.
 
Washington pulled back two runs in the eighth on Braeden Terry's RBI grounder and Guerrero's RBI single, but Portland extended the lead back to three with a solo homer in the bottom half.
 
Pinch hitter Kyle Fossum hammered his first career home run to left in the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Pilots evened the season series with Washington.
 
Washington will remain on the road to close the regular season, heading to Berkeley, California, for a three-game set with Cal, Thursday through Saturday.

• Guerrero finished the day 3-for-4, his seventh multi-hit game in the last nine outings
