Washington Tied for 8th After Second Day Of NCAA Regionals

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The Washington men's golf team started strong but stumbled on the back nine Tuesday at the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional, finishing the day at The Farms Golf Club 11 shots over par.
 
"It was a tough day for us unfortunately," head coach Alan Murray said. "We struggled on the tough back nine and overall just hit too many bad shots and bad putts to be able to score better."
 
Washington is +21 total after two days, 13 shots back of a qualifying position. The top-five teams after tomorrow's final round will advance to the NCAA Championships.
 
"We talked about it after the round," Murray said. "We are in a hole and it is up to us to dig ourselves out of it. We need a really good round tomorrow to have a chance at finishing in that top 5."
 
Bo Peng put forth the day's best effort for the Dawgs, with a bogey on seven the only blemish in an otherwise clean day, firing a one-over 71. Teddy Lin faltered down the stretch but nonetheless posted a 72. Lin is tied for 11th at one-over entering the final round.
 
"Good rounds from Bo and Teddy," Murray said. "Bo had 17 pars which was really solid playing."
 
Petr Hruby had a great start, hitting the back nine at one-under, but ended the day at four-over with three bogeys and a double over the final six holes. Finn Koelle also had an up-and-down day, matching Hruby's 74, while Taehoon Song struggled through an eight-over round.
 
"We need all our guys ready to go tomorrow and see what we can do," Murray said.
 
Washington will tee off the final round at 8:55 a.m. PT, matched up with South Florida and Arizona State.
