Bullard/Cassone Earn Doubles All-American Honors, Advance to Singles and Doubles Quarterfinals

May 22, 2024

STILLWATER– On Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Tennis Center, Arizona State men's tennis was represented by two more wins in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Junior #11 Murphy Cassone made quick work of Illinois' #26 Karlis Ozolins in just 51 minutes, and followed his singles win with a doubles dub alongside partner Jacob Bullard. They defeated Princeton's duo in#32 Filippos Astreinidis/Paul Inchauspe, notching seven aces in the victory.

Yesterday Cassone earned singles All-American honors for the second straight season after advancing to the Sweet 16, and today he and Bullard were named doubles All-Americans after advancing to the quarterfinal round.

Prior to Cassone's two All-American nods in 2023 and 2024, the program had not had an All-American since Jeff Williams and Ed Carter were named doubles All-Americans in 1999. Cassone is just the third player in program history to earn multiple singles All-American honors, and is the first player to earn both singles and doubles All-American honors since Sargis Sargsian in 1994.

In the singles quarterfinals, Cassone is set to face Arizona's #22 Colton Smith tomorrow, May 23 at 8:00 a.m. MST. The match will be shown on ESPN+. The doubles pair of Bullard/Cassone will take on Florida State's #13 Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc/Joshua Dous Karpenschif tomorrow, May 23 at 0:00 p.m. MST.
