May 24, 2024
Fien van Westreenen was named to the team for the second time in her career, while Antonia Galland and Julia Hunt-Davis are making their first appearance.

BERKELEY – Fresh off a second-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships - its best since 2018 - the No. 6 California women's rowing team placed three rowers on the All-Pac-12 team that was announced by the conference office Friday afternoon. Fien van Westreenen was named to the team for the second time in her career, while Antonia Galland and Julia Hunt-Davis are making their first appearance.

This is the first time since 2019 that the Golden Bears have placed at least three rowers on the all-conference team. All three are part of Cal's top varsity eight boat that has earned wins over then-No. 7 Washington, No. 8 Syracuse, No. 11 Virginia and No. 18 Oregon State.

Galland is a senior from Essen, Germany, and has rowed in the V8+ the last three years while spending this year in the four seat. She was named to the 2023 Pocock Racing Shells All-America Second Team and is also a two-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete (2022 and 2023). Last summer, Galland raced for Germany in the women's eight at the 2023 U23 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Hunt-Davis, a junior from London, has been a member of the V8+ all three of her years at Cal and spent a majority of this season in the five seat. As a freshman in 2022, she was part of Cal's V8+ at the famous Henley Royal Regatta and just missed out on advancing to the semifinal round of the Island Challenge Cup.

Van Westreenen is a graduate student from Amsterdam and has been in the V8+ the last three years, having spent a majority of this season in the stroke seat. She was also named to the 2023 Pocock Racing Shells All-America Second Team and is a three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll member (2021, 2022 and 2023) and two-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete (2022 and 2021). Van Westreenen was also named to the All-Pac-12 Team in 2021. Last summer, she competed for the Netherlands in the women's eight at the 2023 U23 World Rowing Championships and finished fifth in the A Final.

All three will join their teammates for the NCAA Championships at Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio, starting May 31.
