Trio Of Bears Earn All-Conference Honors

May 24, 2024
Wilson Morton, Luca Vieira and Alex Baroni were all named to their first All-Pac-12 Team Friday.

BERKELEY – The California men's rowing team placed three rowers on the All-Pac-12 Team that was announced by the conference office Friday afternoon.

Alexander Baroni, Wilson Morton and coxswain Luca Vieira were each named to his first all-conference team. This marks the 10th straight year the Golden Bears have had at least three rowers earn all-conference honors. All three Bears have spent all season racing in Cal's top varsity eight boat, which has notched dual wins over then-No. 7 Syracuse, No. 12 Stanford, No. 15 Wisconsin and No. 18 La Salle.

Baroni, a sophomore out of Perth, Western Australia, has rowed in the seven seat of the V8+ for a majority of the season. As freshman in 2023, he rowed in the F8+ the whole season before moving to the 3V8+ during the IRA championships and helped his team take first place and win the Stewards Cup. Last summer, Baroni also competed for Australia at the 2023 U23 World Rowing Championships in the men's eight and finished fourth in the A Final.

Morton, a junior out of Summit, New Jersey, has competed in the two seat of the V8+ for most of the season. As a sophomore in 2023, he rowed in the 2V8+ that went undefeated the whole season and helped his team win first place at the 2023 IRA championships and take home the Kennedy Challenge Cup.

Vieira, senior from Berkeley, has served as coxswain for the V8+ the last three seasons, including back-to-back IRA national championships. He is the reigning IRCA Coxswain of the Year and two-time IRCA First-Team All-American and Scholar-Athlete (2022 and 2023).

All three Bears will join their teammates for the IRA national championships at Mercer Lake in New Jersey starting May 31.
