Wildcats Walk Off Trojans, 4-3, to Win Pac-12 Tournament

May 25, 2024

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Cardiac Cats struck again, this time in Scottsdale to claim the Pac-12 Tournament Championship. First baseman Tommy Splaine deposited a single into left field to score pinch runner Emilio Corona from second base and seal a 4-3 victory for the Arizona Wildcats (36-21) over the USC Trojans (31-28).

Splaine's game-winner was his team-leading second hit of the night. The Wildcats scored all four of their runs over the final three innings, completing a remarkable three-run comeback to clinch Arizona's second conference title in seven days.

The Wildcats comeback was made possible by another strong start from right-hander Cam Walty. The senior worked eight innings and allowed just three runs on five hits while striking out four; he did not factor into the decision.

Fellow right-hander Anthony Susac (2-2) earned the win after a lockdown top of the ninth inning in which he retired the Trojans in order.

With the win, Arizona claimed the Pac-12 Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats will learn of their destiation for Regionals on Selection Monday.
