2021 Pac-12 Women's Lacrosse Tournament Day 1 Recap

May 5, 2021

Stanford, Calif. — Highlighted by a stellar performance from senior goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau and a collective effort on the offensive end, No. 4 Arizona State emerged victorious over No. 5 California in Wednesday’s Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament quarterfinal matchup at Stanford Stadium, 17-9.

Graduate student attacker Carley Adams opened up the scoring with her league-leading 52nd goal on the season, one of seven different Sun Devils to find the back of the net in the first half. Adams and fellow attacker Emily Glagolev combined for seven goals, as Arizona State leaned on a 7-1 first-half run and a 4-0 second-half spurt to put the Bears away.

Starting in net for the 14th game this season, Bonneau was on her game from the get-go, saving 14 shots and eclipsing double-digit saves for the seventh time in 2021. California finished the contest out-shooting Arizona State 31-28, including 23 shots on goal.

For the Bears, sophomore midfielder Kelly McIntyre recorded a hat trick, her first goals of the season in an impressive showing off the bench. California’s lineup featured four players with at least a goal and an assist, including All-Pac-12 second teamer Nikki Zaccaro

The Sun Devils will face a quick turnaround with a matchup against top-seeded Stanford on Thursday at 4 p.m. PT. The winner will take on the winner of the second semifinal game, featuring a rematch of the 2019 Conference championship game between No. 3 Colorado and No. 2 USC.

Coverage of the 2021 Pac-12 Women’s Lacrosse Tournament continues tomorrow on Pac-12 Networks and the Pac-12 Now App, beginning at 4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MT. The Buffaloes and Trojans are scheduled to face off at 7:30 p.m. PT / 8:30 p.m. MT.
