SAN FRANCISCO - USC freshman guard Elijah Stewart has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for play from Dec. 15-21, the Conference office announced today in a vote of media who cover Pac-12 men’s basketball.
The DeRidder, La., native led the Trojans to a 75-71 road win at Boston College, tying the school record for field goals made without a miss by going 10-for-10 from the floor. Stewart was also 2-for-2 from three-point range, while contributing four rebounds and two blocks. He tied the record previously set by Taj Gibson, who was also 10-for-10 against Boston College in an NCAA Tournament game on Mar. 20, 2009. It marked USC’s third-straight non-conference road win, the longest such streak since 2001.
The honor marks Stewart's first-career weekly award. It is USC’s 35th player of the week selection all-time.
USC closes out its non-conference slate by hosting Vermont this week. The game is on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 8:30 p.m. PT and will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
