NORMAN, Okla. – The #16 Washington Huskies fell 4-2 to the #1 Oklahoma Sooners Friday night, falling behind 1-0 in the best-of-three Super Regional. Sis Bates became Washington's all-time hits leader in the game, recording the 318th and 319th hits of her career to pass Sara Pickering.
The loss ends a three-game winning streak against Oklahoma, stretching back to the 2018 Women's College World Series. Washington also had its five-game Super Regionals winning streak end, suffering its first loss in Super Regionals since 2017.
It was a close-fought battle throughout, with neither team holding more than a one-run lead until the fifth inning, when a costly error helped Oklahoma put two more runs on the board. Washington rallied in the seventh, cutting it to a two-run game and putting two runners on bases before a double play ended the game.
Bates and Sami Reynolds had multi-hit games for the Huskies. Washington had two solo home runs, from Reynolds and Kelley Lynch.
Gabbie Plain was solid, twice retiring the side in order and allowing only three earned runs in the game. After fighting through three early HBPs, Plain would allow just three baserunners to reach scoring position in the game's final four innings.
