Munnelly Scores Spot on All-Regional

Dec 5, 2002

BOULDER - University of Colorado soccer player Fran Munnelly was named to the 2002 NSCAA Division I All-Central team Thursday, adding one more accolade to the freshman midfielder's first collegiate season.

Munnelly, who netted a spot on the regional team's third squad, led the 2002 Buffs in goals (6), assists (5), points (17) and shots (71) and also became CU's all-time freshman class leader in those four categories.

A graduate of Denver's Mullen High School, Munnelly was tabbed First-Team All-Big 12 and Big 12 Rookie of the Year this season, as she also earned a spot on the Big 12's All-Newcomer Team.

"Having Fran gain another honor--and not just Fran, but another player on this team--can only help us go farther," head coach Bill Hempen said. "Everything our ladies have done has helped get to where we are and has shown where we want to be."

One of just two freshmen to be named to the Big 12's first-team, Munnelly was the first Colorado soccer player to make the conference's top squad, and now becomes the first Buff to be named to the NSCAA's All-Regional team.
