BOULDER - University of Colorado women's soccer standout Nikki Marshall was named a First Team Freshman All-America selection and a Fourth Team All-America selection Wednesday by Soccer Buzz online magazine.
Marshall was previously named First Team All-Central Region and Central Region Freshman of the Year earlier this week by Soccer Buzz. She posted 17 goals and three assists for the Buffaloes to lead the Big 12 Conference in scoring with 37 points. She set nine school records at CU in her first season in Boulder. She was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and was the first Colorado player to earn one of the two top player awards for the Soccer Buzz central region.
This marks the first time a CU player has been named a First Team Freshman All-America pick by Soccer Buzz, and makes Marshall just the second Buff overall to be named to an overall All-America team by the website. Fran Munnelly was previously named a Third Team All-American in 2004 and was twice Honorable Mention (2003, 05). Katie Griffin and Laura Munnelly have also previously been named Freshman All-Americans, both in 2003 (second team and honorable mention, respectively).
Marshall is one of two Big 12 freshmen to make the team, and she is also joined by Sweet 16 foe Michelle Weissenhofer of Notre Dame on the freshmen squad. She is one of just four freshmen in the country to make the All-America first, second, third or fourth team.
All Soccer Buzz Awards are based on a nomination process open to all NCAA Division I Coaches and balloting results of a voting panel of selected D1 Head Coaches and Soccer Buzz Staff.
