Soccer Announces 2007 Schedule

Mar 14, 2007

BOULDER ? University of Colorado head soccer coach Bill Hempen has announced the 2007 schedule for the Buffaloes, which will feature eight teams that participated in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

The Buffs season will kick off on Saturday, August 25 with an exhibition match at the University of Northern Colorado.  The regular season opener will be Friday, August 31 at the University of Denver, CU's second round NCAA foe from the 2006 NCAA Tournament.  The teams met twice last season with CU winning those contests 1-0 in the regular season and 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament.  The Buffs will then face either Air Force or Fairfield in the second round of the DU Tournament on Sept. 2.

The CU home opener will be on Thursday, Sept. 6 against Utah at 4 p.m. at Prentup Field.  This marks the second time that Utah has traveled to Colorado to face the Buffs, with the teams having played four times and CU owning a record of 3-1 in those contents.  That will be followed by the first meeting in Boulder between BYU and Colorado. The teams have met three previous times in Utah with BYU taking all three meetings.  Following that weekend the Buffaloes will take their first bonafide road trip, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., to take on Virginia and New Mexico on Sept. 14 and 16.  UVa made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament a year ago, falling to Texas A&M in College Station by a score of 2-1.

CU will return home to host the Colorado Soccer Classic, hosting Denver, Drake and NCAA Sweet 16 participant Stanford.  Denver will take on Drake at 2 p.m. followed by CU against Stanford at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, with the teams swapping on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.  All four participating teams were NCAA selections a year ago and will be an exciting wrapup to the non-conference season for the Buffaloes.

The Buffs will then open the 2007 Big 12 season, hosting Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.  That will feature CU soccer alumnae weekend and the University of Colorado Homecoming Weekend, and will be followed by matches on Oct. 5 against Nebraska and Oct. 7 against Iowa State at home on the following weekend.  CU then travels to Texas to face Baylor and Texas A&M on Oct. 12 and 14.  The final home weekend for CU will be Oct. 19 and 21, against Kansas and Missouri, with CU recognizing the senior class that day.

Colorado will wrap up the regular season with three straight road games, traveling to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State on Oct. 26 and 28, followed by the final regular season game at Texas on Friday, Nov. 2.  That will be followed by the Big 12 Tournament, which will be played Nov. 7, 9, and 11 at Blossom Athletic Complex in San Antonio, Texas.
