BOULDER -The University of Colorado returns home this weekend to host the Colorado Invitational on Saturday, April 7, at Potts Field. The field events will kick off the day at 9 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. The running events are set to start at 2 p.m. with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
The forecast for Saturday's meet is a high of 42 and a 30 percent chance of precipitation. Should inclement weather force a cancellation of the meet, such notice will be posted on www.CUBuffs.com as well as a message left on the track and field office voice mail at 303/492-5227.
The Buffaloes will compete against several Front Range schools at the CU Invite. Air Force, Colorado State, UC-Colorado Springs, Wyoming, Metro State, Colorado School of Mines and Northern Colorado will field complete teams on Saturday. The South Dakota Tech men's team and the Mesa State women's team will also compete on Saturday.
Zach Hazen, who set the school record in the hammer throw last weekend, and Ryan Willis will led the throwers into action. Hazen will compete in the hammer and discus, while Willis will take part in the hammer, shot and discus. Hannah Warfield-Ruffatto continues her quest to break the CU record in the javelin. Warfield-Ruffatto was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Potts Invite where she set a USATF ?A' standard to compete in nationals this June.
The CU men's 4x100 relay team will look to break the school record of 39.5. They came close last year, setting the second best time of 40.30. Ryan Campbell, who recorded the sixth fastest time in CU history last weekend in the 100, will lead the Buffs in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. George Pincock and Chris Abuan will compete in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. On the women's side, Chelsea Haverty will led the charge in the 200 and Veronica Maul will in the 400.
The middle distance and distance squad will also compete on Saturday. Jenny Barringer, Anthony Chiulli, Stephen Pifer and Brent Vaughn will all race in the 800. Billy Nelson will lead the charge in the 1,500.
Parking and admission are free.
