BOULDER - Two University of Colorado women's soccer players were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Central Region team, the association announced today.
Sophomore Nikki Marshall earned first team accolades while junior defender Michelle Wenino was listed as a member of the second team.
It marks the second NSCAA All-Region honor for Marshall, who was a second team pick in 2006. She finished the season as CU's leading scorer with nine goals, two assists, good for 20 points. The forward turned defender from Mead, Colo. made the team for the first time as a defensive selection.
Wenino, a product of Smoky Hill High School and a 2007 first-team All-Big 12 selection, earned all-region honors for the first time in her career. Wenino started all 22 games for the Buffs and led the team in minutes played. She finished with one goal, which proved to be the gamewinner against Drake University earlier in the season to snap Colorado's five game scoreless streak.
The Buffaloes finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 10-8-4, making their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament where they dropped their second round matchup to the No. 2 seed Portland, 1-0. Head coach Bill Hempen graduates two seniors in Brittany Dornseif and Allison Kidd, and will have seven seniors in 2007 as Amber Bettenhausen, Alex Cousins, Gianna DeSaverio, Genna Gorman, Nikki Keller, Kirstin Radlinski and Wenino will lead the Buffs next season.
