Roby Named All-Big 12 Third Team

Mar 10, 2008

IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado senior guard Richard Roby was named to the All-Big 12 Conference third team, announced Monday by the conference office.

The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

It's the third conference honor in four years awarded to Roby. The 6'6" senior from San Bernardino, Calif. was a first-team selection in 2005-06 and a member of the All-Freshman team in 2004-05. In 2006-07, he was an honorable mention selection.

Roby is rewriting the Colorado record book in his final season in Boulder. This past weekend he moved up to second overall on the school's all-time scoring list (1,951 points) and is averaging a team-best 16.5 points per game. His scoring average ranks third in the Big 12.

Roby is on the verge of becoming only the third player in school history to lead the Buffaloes in scoring all four years.

With over 1,000 minutes played (a personal-best), Roby is shooting a season-best percentage from the field (.471) and the 3-point arc (.396). In addition to a season-best 192 rebounds (6.4 rpg.), Roby also has a season-high four doubles-doubles (nine career) and a trio of 27-point scoring games.

Last week, he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) second team recognizing the nation's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes. It was Roby's second appearance on the NABC list having earned first-team honors as a sophomore.

Colorado plays Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 Basketball Championship, Thursday, March 13 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. Game time is 1 p.m. (MDT) on ESPNU and Altitude Sports and Entertainment.
