McChesney Signs With Broncos

Feb 13, 2009

DENVER-The Denver Broncos Thursday signed Matt McChesney, a former standout at the University of Colorado and a local product out of nearby Niwot High School.  Denver signed McChesney as an offensive guard although he played defensive tackle at CU.

McChesney, entering his third year in the NFL, was cut by Miami on Monday.  He played in one game for the Dolphins but hurt his knee and ended the season on injured reserve.

McChesney played for the Buffs from 2000-04, during which he earned a number of honors including being named team captain in 2004, honorable mention All-Big 12 while also earning the Dave Jones Award for most outstanding defensive player and the Derek Singleton Award for dedication, spirit and enthusiasm.  In 43 career games at CU, McChesney recorded 123 tackles (87 solo), 20 tackles for loss, 11 sacks and three fumble recoveries.

McChesney is now the third former Buff on the Broncos roster, joining offensive tackle Tyler Polumbus and tight end and team captain Daniel Graham.  It is a reunion of sorts, as McChesney played at CU with both players; Graham and McChesney were teammates from 2000-01 while Polumbus and McChesney played together from 2003-04.
