Marshall Attending U-23 National Team Camp

Apr 10, 2009

CARSON, Calif. - University of Colorado soccer player Nikki Marshall has been selected to participate in the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team training camp in Portland, Ore. from April 11-19.

The U-23's are slated to take on Oregon State in Corvallis on April 14 and the University of Washington on April 16 at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton.  They will wrap up the camp on April 18 when they face the University of Portland Pilots at 7 p.m. at Merlo Field in Portland.

The U.S. U-23's are coached by Bill Irwin, who is Portland's Director of Soccer and men's head coach.  Marshall joins Irwin and the pool of players that are preparing for a potential European tour this summer.

Joining Marshall on the roster are three of her former U.S. U-20 teammates that helped her capture the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup title last year in Chile.  Marshall, who was named the Sierra Mist Woman of the Match (MVP) in the championship game, is joined by goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, defender Lauren Fowlkes, and forward Alex Morgan.

"Obviously the eyes of the national team program are fixed firmly on our Nikki Marshall," said head CU soccer coach Bill Hempen.  "I know she's excited and we're excited for her as she continues to do things that are above and beyond anything that she probably could have ever expected."

Marshall will miss the final game of the camp against Portland in order to join the Buffs in California for their final spring match-up on April 18 in the fourth annual KICKS Against Breast Cancer tournament hosted by Stanford University.
