Buffs Wrap Up Third To Last Spring Practice Session

BOULDER - The University of Colorado football team wrapped up the 13th practice of spring football Tuesday here on the lower practice fields.  The weather was perfect for the Buffs with temperatures in the high 60s and humidity running in the low teens. 

"I don't how you guys feel like when we're inside," CU coach Dan Hawkins said. "You can do some stuff, but it's like on a snowy day and mom makes you go in the garage and play versus going outside and you're like ?you know, it's OK, we'll get it done but you can't really cut it loose in here.'"

Hawkins talked a bit about what people can expect from the Spring Game, and said it would be very similar to last year's game. 

"Basically, we'll play it like it's a game," Hawkins said.  "You have to slow it down some for special teams; you have some guys running in and out.  We will play it back and forth and see how it goes. This year we've got a lot of situational stuff in during practice and our scrimmages, so it will run more like a game."

Hawkins said there will be 10 minute quarters but if the play count gets high, there may be some running clock near the end of the game. 

NOTES:  A few members of the Air Force coaching staff were on hand to catch the Buffs practice Tuesday.  Hawkins went down to the Academy to watch a practice earlier in the spring.  Hawkins said that Jon Major has progressed nicely during the spring and he has picked it up each week and made some good plays at practice Tuesday.  CU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mark Helfrich will interview for the offensive coordinator opening at Oregon next week.  Helfrich was born in Medford, Ore., and played collegiately at Southern Oregon before being an offensive graduate assistant for the Ducks in 1997.
