IRVING, Texas- The University of Colorado put 20 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field teams, announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors Jenny Barringer, Veronica Maul and Kenyon Neuman led the Buffs; all three earning their third straight academic honor.
Overall, 10 Buffs were named to the first team and 10 were named to the second team. Of the 20 to earn the academic honor, 12 are on the team for the first time.
Barringer has been a member of the first team all three years and was named an Academic All-American in 2008. She is a double-major in political science and economics and is on schedule to graduate in December.
Maul, who graduated on May 8 with a degree in biochemistry, has also been a member of the first team all three years. Neuman was a member of the first team in 2007 and was on the second team in 2008. He is majoring in finance.
Five Buffs are making their second appearance on the academic team; Rachel Gioscia (integrative physiology), Emily Hanenburg (Studio Art) and Kaity Kark (Mechanical Engineering) on the first team and Dan Edwards (applied math) and Chynna McCall (Psychology) on the second team.
To qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
Colorado will travel to the 13th annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17 at the Terry and Linda Fuller Track in Lubbock, Texas. FSN will rebroadcast the championship on May 22 at a time to be announced.
