No. 21 Baylor Sweeps Colorado

Nov 11, 2009

WACO, Texas -The University of Colorado volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 21 Baylor on Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center (25-14, 25-15, 25-14).

With the loss, the Buffs fall to 7-18 overall record and 2-14 in the Big 12. The Bears improved to 21-6, 10-6 in the Big 12.

Becah Fogle led Colorado with eight kills and 11 digs. Schylur Edelman was the Buffs' second highest attacker with six kills. Megan Cyr was directing the offense and handed out 21 assists as CU hit .064.

"Tonight's performance is clearly not what we consider high level," Kritza said. "In this tough league, we will get take our losses, but there is a difference in getting beat and losing, and our poor performance in our ball control led to a sub-par performance."

Baylor put up 14.0 team blocks in the match as the Buffs recorded 19 attack errors in the effort. Ashlie Christenson led the Bears with 13 kills and Allison King had a match-high 19 digs.

CU started out the first set going toe-to-toe with BU until the Bears put together a 5-0 run to take a 15-11 lead. CU took the following point, but BU put together six more points to increase its lead to 21-12. The Buffs recorded two more points before falling 25-14 in the set. The Bears held CU to a .088 attack percentage while hitting .312.

Baylor got out to an 18-10 lead in the second set and CU struggled to get much going on offense. Colorado continued to battle before dropping the set 25-15. Once again BU held the Buffs to a low hitting percentage at .032 while attacking at .375.

"This team knows that it requires our full effort and everything we have to compete against strong Big 12 opponents like Baylor and tonight we have some clear weaknesses that they were able to exploit and turn into major leads that we could not come back from," Kritza said.

Colorado came out strong in the beginning of the third set and was within two points at 6-8. But the Baylor strung together three more points to own a five-point lead (11-6) and wouldn't look back. The Buffs tried to get back in the frame but fell 25-14. CU hit .069 while the Bears attacked at a .273 clip.

Kritza added, "Regardless of the outcome, our focus must be the positive future of this program as we are building and the continual improvement by remaining focused and diligent."

The Buffs are back at home at the Coors Events Center on Saturday, November 14, to host Missouri. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start.
