BOULDER - Sophomore Joe Morris and junior Emma Coburn will represent the University of Colorado at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday, March 11-12 in College Station, Texas. This is the first trip to the indoor championship for both Buffs.
Coburn will compete in the women's mile, starting with the preliminary round on Friday at 3 p.m. MST. The finals for the event are on Saturday at 4 p.m. Morris will race in the 60-meter dash. Those prelims are Friday at 4:45 p.m. with the finals happening on Saturday at 5:10 p.m.
Coburn advanced to the NCAA Championship after clocking a time of 4 minutes, 37.44 seconds at the Husky Classic on February 12 in Seattle, Wash. The time is the second best ever run by a Buff. Of the declared athletes in the field, Coburn's time ranks sixth. Oregon's Jordan Hasay owns the top mark in the 16 woman field at 4:34.75.
Morris ran his fastest time of the season, 6.63, at the Potts Indoor Invitational on January 22. The time is the CU record, breaking Jonathan Prather's time of 6.67 from 1999. The top declared time this season is Oklahoma's Rakieem Salaam who ran 6.54. The field of 18 participants is separated by .11 seconds.
Texas A&M University will host the event at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at McFerrin Athletic Center. This is the second time in three years the Aggies will host this event as they also hosted in 2009.
