UCLA Football Receives $1,000,000 Donation for New Training Facility

Oct 10, 2013

The UCLA Athletic Department is pleased to announce a commitment of $1,000,000 from former UCLA football player Andy Meyers and his wife Shannon that will be put toward the new UCLA Football Training Facility.

In honor of Andy and Shannon’s generosity, UCLA will name an aspect of the Football Training Facility after them.

"When we made the announcement about our new football facility, I mentioned that time and again, Bruin alumni and friends have always stepped up to change our future," Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero said. "It’s fitting that Andy and Shannon would be among the first to answer that challenge. Andy was a larger than life leader on the football field for us during his playing career and encompasses everything that it means to be a Bruin. With this generous donation, the Meyers family is once again showing everyone how to lead and we thank them for their tremendous support."

During his time with the Bruins, Meyers, who lettered from 1995-98 and later went on to play for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, was a two-time All-Pac-10 guard, third-team All-American, Academic All-Pac-10 and Academic All-District. While he was in Westwood, UCLA football won 20-straight games and claimed a pair of Pac-10 Championships in 1997 and 1998.

"It is an honor for Shannon and I to give back to UCLA," said Andy Meyers, currently Chief Executive Officer of Shangri-La Construction. "UCLA afforded me not only a great education but access to a great Bruin family in business."

"Andy knows first-hand what a special place UCLA is," said head football coach Jim Mora. “He competed at the highest level, achieved great success and is now showing how much being a Bruin means to him and his family. Andy and Shannon’s donation is a game-changer and will help the UCLA football program continue to compete at an elite level."

On September 24th, the athletic department announced a campaign to raise private funds for a comprehensive football training facility to be located on the west side of Spaulding Field, the practice field for the Bruin football team. The planned state-of-the-art facility is intended to house a locker room, athletic training area, strength and conditioning facility, coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, equipment rooms and video rooms, in addition to several elements that will feature the storied history of UCLA football.

Additional naming opportunities for the UCLA Football Training Facility remain. For more information or to become involved in the campaign, contact Josh Rebholz, Associate AD for Development at 310-206-3302, or visit www.UCLAFootballFacility.com.
